Biography
           
 
MARTIN E. VREELAND is a freelance lighting designer based in the New York City Metro Area. He is a member of United Scenic Artists, I.A.T.S.E. Local USA829, the union and professional association for designers in the entertainment industry. Martin has designed over 175 theatrical productions since beginning his professional career. He earned his BFA Degree in Theatre from Syracuse University in 1987. After receiving his degree, he worked in regional theatre as an electrician and lighting supervior while begining his design career. Martin moved to New York City to pursue a full time freelance design career in 1993. Within six years, he had worked as the assistant or associate on numerous regional poductions and nine Broadway Productions, including the currently running Disneys' The Lion King which opened in 1997. Since then Martin has continued to work on new productions of The Lion King, but focused his energy on his own design career. Martin's lighting designs have been seen across the country, most recently at Sacramento Music Circus and at the New York Musical Theatre Festival where the show he worked on, SEEING STARS, won honorable mention for overall production design.
